FOUR $85,000 CLASSIC SERIES DIVISIONS TOPS BIG MONDAY CARD

 

DOVER, Del--- The sport’s richest and fastest performers in the senior division compete in four $85,000 divisions as the prestigious Classic Series kicks off on a giant Monday, April 7 program at Dover Downs. A $40,000 Open-Preferred Handicap, the $37,500 Delaware Special, a $25,000, $24,000, $23,000 and a $21,000 pace highlight the standout undercard. Post time is 5:30 p.m.

 

The largest field is the Classic Distaff with 11 contenders led by 2007 Dan Patch Award winner Jerry Silva’s Southwind Tempo, driven by Hall of Famer John Campbell. Entrymate Benear, with Cat Manzi, another entry of Elusive Prey, owned by Joe, JoAnn Thomson and Becky Williams with George Brennan, and Winbak Farm’s Spring Break teamed with Jim Morand, Teague Inc. and Ted Gewertz’s Artcotic with Brian Sears, Perretti Racing Stables' Captiva Island and Elusive Prey with George Brennan, all have or have had local connections.

 

Former Hambletonian, Breeders Crown and twice defending Classic Trot champion Vivid Photo, owned by Todd Schadel and driver Roger Hammer, Paul Chambers and John Mello’s previous champ JM Vangogh and Trillium Racing Stable’s Green day with Tim Tetrick lead 10 in the Trotting Classic.

 

2007 champion Buck I St. Pat, owned by Howard Taylor, Ed Gold, Abe Basen and R.R. Fuller, and Terry and Clarence Devos’ Ontario standout Snazzy Millie and John Campbell is the one to beat in the $85,000 Classic Oaks.

 

The Pacing Classic boasts a field of eight starters led by Mr. Feelgood and Andy Miller driving for John Fodera, Brittany Farms and Lindy Farms of Connecticut, the USTA’S March Horse of the Month. Bob Silberberg’s razor sharp Manhardt and George Brennan, Joe Alborano’s Breeders Crown champion Artistic Fella with Tim Tetrick and the Teague Inc. entry of Total Truth and Brian Sears, co-owned along with Ted Gewertz and Only Money Inc. and Kovach Stables’ Western Ace and Jim Morand.

 

On the powerful regular card, the two leading contenders for Horse of the Meet that will be presented on Thursday’s meet ending program -Carter Racing Stable and trainer Bobby Myers’ Immortal Quest N with Eddie Davis Jr., Gary Minner and Pete Richardson’s Sharky Osborne and Tim Tetrick - are among seven starters in the $40,000 Open-Preferred/Handicap pace.

 

Kovach Stable’s Art Director and Brian Sears seek to continue their success in the $37,500 Delaware Special Handicap, a seven-horse field.
