STREAKING BALL GOWN A HEADS $32,000 MARES OPEN AT DOVER
DOVER, Del.--- Ball Gown A puts a three-race win streak on the line in the highly competitive last $32, 000 Mares Open pace of the meet on Tuesday, April 8 at Dover Downs. On the undercard are a $24,000, $23,000 and $22,000 Winners-Over pace. First post is now 5:30 p.m.
Owned and trained by Peter Tritton, Ball Gown A and Eric Goodell have not been passed in either of her progressively faster three victories while taking a 1:51.4 career best last week. Eddie Davis Jr. drove Bob Messick’s Pacific Philly to finish second with Fionavar Hanover, owned by Sylvia Burke, Frank Baldachino and Howard Taylor, two-and-three-quarter lengths back in third.
A big challenge is expected from Larry Baron’s Sportsfancy, a 1:52.1 winner two weeks ago with Tony Morgan driving and Betting Machine winner of an impressive 1:51.4 mile last Tuesday with Jim Morand piloting for Only Money and Teague Inc. Ireneonthemove also was a wire-to-wire winner last time with Tony Morgan steering a 1:52 victory for owner Rodney Wyatt. Poppy Lustre N, the Horse of the Meet last season, makes her second start of the year with Mike Cole driving for owners Ricky Pryor and Wendy Crissman. Not to be overlooked is Delco Stable’ and driver Art Stafford Jr.’s hard-hitting Dream-A-While.
Esther Bier’s Riley Rose returns after a week off to lead eight to post in a $24,000 Mares pace. Cantwell Bridge Stable’s Lockes Of Love and Tim Tetrick and Kathleen Weller’s Famed Artist and Jim Morand, both finished second last time out. Jeff Eckburg’s Bikini Bottom drew the rail with Eric Goodell with Tom Ireland and Ron Killen’s Flirtwithedealer teamed with Corey Callahan alongside.
Mike and Ann Tait’s Tug River Aussie driven by Jonathan Roberts, and Johnny Waite’s Poker Mom with Brandon Givens complete the lineup.
Following a 1:52.2 victory, Tony Domino’s Love And lust N with Tim Tetrick is the one to beat in the $22,000 Mares Winners-Over pace. Playus A Happytune, owned by Barbara and Bill Kinsey, finished second last week and Bob Kinsey Jr. returns to drive. John Wagenhoffler’s Unn and Mike Cole steps out of the claiming ranks after a strong second last week.
The other contenders are Marion Andrew’s recent acquisition Magic Maverick with Ross Wolfenden, Hanna’s Delight from the rail with Jim Morand driving for Albert Hanna. Cavalli Pazzi Stables’ Casino Bus and Brandon Givens, with Bill and Rich Fritts’ Fritzie Bunnie with Mike Cole and Ron McLenaghan’s You’re Welcome teamed with Roger Plante starting from the outside posts.
