WAMBAM SAM, SCHOOLKIDS, RIGGINS COLLIDE IN $35,000 PREFERRED
DOVER, Del. --- Wambam Sam draws outside post 7 in the
last $35,000 Preferred Handicap pace of the meet taking on Schoolkids, Riggins
and Dina’s Gamble in the week’s top pace. Roy Orbisong makes his first start of
the year and Southwind Lynx returns in the $32,500 Delaware Special on Monday, April
11 co-feature race at Dover Downs. The strong undercard features three $18,000 paces.
Post time is 4:30 p.m.
With consecutive wins in this event, Wambam Sam seeks his eighth win of the year for Daryl Bier, trainer, driver and co-owner with Charlie Dombeck and Glenn DelRusso. KDM Stables Corp.’s Schoolkids, winner of the 2009 Matron Stake, a February winner in this race, will be driven by Pat Berry. Riggins, leased by trainer Mike Hall, is doing double duty. The six-year-old is back racing while also standing stallion duty in Delaware.
The rest of the
talented and fast starts are Dina’s Gamble moving up and leaving from the rail
after a front-pacing 1:50.3 victory with Jim Morand last Monday. Louie
Paglierani and Legacy Racing of DE. owned the winner of three of his last five
races. Alongside is Bill DeLodovico and trainer Bib Roberts’ Three Of Spaces to
be driven by Ron Pierce in the absence of regular driver Jon Roberts. Andrea
Hill’s Jeremy’s Successor is a three-time winner with Sean Bier while Jim
Behrendt’s Harlingen Hanover and Roger Plante can be counted on to be flying at
the finish.
A strong lineup of eight match strides in the $32,500 Delaware Special. Last week’s second-place finisher Charger (Ron Pierce).Bobby Glassmeyer’s Theredandpanlines (Pat Berry) also has three seconds in his last five outings. Toby Lynch’s Frog Juice has been third in his last three starts. Eddie and Kathy Davis’ Nova Artist (Allan Davis) has been a De. Special regular but must overcome post 8 this time.
Jim King and Joe Johnson’s Astounding Hanover (Tim Tetrick) has gotten a check in all his local appearances this meet. Joe Colosi’s Funny Deacon (Corey Callahan) is another starter usually close. The new faces are Daryl Bier’s Roy Orbisong is back after racing during the 2010 portion of this meet while Southwind Lynx, a winner of nearly $1.7-million returns from the Levy series with Montrell Teague driving for K&R Racing and Teague Inc. .
The undercard is
headed by three$18,000 paces, two are for 4&5-Year-Olds and the other is a Winners-Over
for male pacers.
Daily post time is 4:30 p.m. through meet closing day, this Thursday, April 14. Simulcasts of harness and thoroughbred racing is featured daily from 12 Noon until 12 Midnight. Parking and admission is free.
